Physics
This course serves as a survey of the typical topics covered in an introductory high-school level mechanics class. A more detailed list of topics is provided below, but the topics closely resemble those found in AP Physics 1 or AP Physics C: Mechanics. They are taught at the late middle school or early high school level; no prior knowledge is explicitly assumed, and a review of all of the necessary mathematics will be provided, but familiarity with the basic techniques of algebra, at the very least, is strongly recommended. The instructor of this course will be Brianna Zheng. Brianna Zheng graduated from BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and is a rising sophomore at Princeton University, studying physics. She has taken all of the AP Physics exams offered and received Honorable Mention on the USA Physics Olympiad.

Chemistry
This course serves as a survey of the typical topics covered in an introductory high-school level chemistry class. A more detailed list of topics is provided below, but the topics closely resemble those found in AP Chemistry. They are taught at the late middle school or early high school level; no prior knowledge is explicitly assumed, and a review of all of the necessary mathematics will be provided, but familiarity with the basic techniques of algebra, at the very least, is strongly recommended. The instructors of this course will be Derrick Liu and Ivan Zhang. Derrick Liu graduated from BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and is a rising Junior at Johns Hopkins University, studying chemical engineering. He has taken Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and college-level introductory and inorganic chemistry and excelled in all courses. Derrick also has extensive tutoring experience, having been a teaching assistant for introductory chemistry at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and a mathematics tutor at AlphaStar academy. Ivan Zhang graduated from BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and is a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley studying Molecular and Cell Biology. He has taken Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, college-level general chemistry and organic chemistry. Ivan has led a biology club, organized biology bowls and tutored high schoolers.
Computer Science A
This course serves as a survey of the typical topics covered in an introductory high school-level Computer Science A class. The curriculum closely resembles the topics found in the AP Computer Science A curriculum, adapted for late middle school and early high school students. Necessary mathematical concepts will be reviewed throughout the course, though familiarity with basic algebraic reasoning is strongly recommended. Students will learn foundational programming concepts using Java, including problem-solving, algorithmic thinking, object-oriented programming, and basic data structures. By the end of the course, students should be comfortable writing, debugging, and analyzing moderately complex programs independently. The instructor of this course will be Kevin Zhang. Kevin Zhang graduated from The King's Academy and is an incoming freshman at Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science, studying Robotics and AI. He took AP CSA in 2024 with a score of 5 and served as captain of his school’s robotics team, helping lead the team to qualification for the FTC World Championships.
Economics
This course serves as a survey of the typical topics covered in an introductory high-school level Microeconomics and Macroeconomics class. A more detailed list of topics is provided below, but the topics closely resemble those found in the AP Microeconomics and Macroeconomics curriculum. This class is usually taught at the late high school level; no prior knowledge is explicitly assumed. Familiarity with basic Algebra is strongly recommended. The instructor of this course will be Ivan Zhang. Ivan Zhang is a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley, intending to study Molecular and Cell Biology and Economics. He earned scores of 5 on both AP Economics exams, led the Economics Club, and captained his high school's economics competition teams. Brianna Zheng will be the teaching assistant of this course. She graduated from Basis Independent School Silicon Valley and is an incoming freshman at Princeton University, planning to study Physics. She earned scores of 5 on both AP Economics exams, led the Economics Club, and received multiple honors in physics, math, and economics competitions.
Precalculus
This course serves as a survey of topics taught in an introductory Precalculus class, closely aligning with the College Board AP Precalculus curriculum. Prior knowledge of Algebra and Trigonometry is strongly recommended for this course. Students will strengthen their skills in algebra, trigonometry, and analytic geometry. Topics include functions, equations, graphs, and an introduction to limits. The course emphasizes problem-solving and builds a foundation for advanced math and science courses. The textbook used for this course will be James Stewart Precalculus Mathematics for Calculus Fifth Edition. Your instructor will be Rex Ouyang, a Simulations Electrical Engineer at Formula Electric at Berkeley and a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley, studying Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science. Rex has taken Multivariable Calculus, Abstract Linear Algebra, Real/Complex Analysis, and Convex Optimization through UC Berkeley’s Mathematics and Computer Science offerings. He has a strong interest in applying computation to problems in the mathematical and physical sciences.
Economics

He earned 5s in both AP Economics exams and completed coursework in econometrics, game theory/behavioral economics, and money and banking. As president and lead instructor of the National Economics Challenge Club at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, he led multiple teams to finals and championships. Through tutoring and teaching, he hopes to share his passion for economics with others. Ivan Zhang is a rising junior at the University of California, Berkeley in the LSBE Program at the Haas School of Business, double majoring in Business Administration and Molecular & Cell Biology on the pre-med track. He earned 5s in both AP Economics exams and was actively involved in economics competitions and leadership throughout high school. Through tutoring and teaching, he hopes to share his knowledge and interest in economics with younger students.

Derrick also has extensive tutoring experience, having been a teaching assistant for introductory chemistry at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and a mathematics tutor at AlphaStar academy. Vivian Long graduated from BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and is a rising Senior studying Chemistry and Mathematics at Wellesley College. She has taken AP Chemistry as well as college-level chemistry courses. She has experience as a chemistry peer tutor, a teaching assistant, and a research assistant.
Calculus BC
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to AP Calculus BC (with approximately two-thirds of the content covering topics from AP Calculus AB), closely aligned with the official College Board curriculum. Designed for high school students, it assumes prior knowledge of algebra and trigonometry but does not require any background in calculus. Throughout the course, students will explore foundational calculus topics, including limits, derivatives, integrals, differential equations, parametric and polar functions, and infinite series. The material will be taught at a high school level but with the depth and pace expected of a summer intensive. The textbook used for this course will be James Stewart Calculus Early Transcendentals 8th Edition (Chapters 1-11). The course will be taught by Justin Le, a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley majoring in Data Science. Justin earned a score of 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam and has over two years of experience tutoring AP-level courses. His teaching emphasizes clear explanations, real-world applications, and building lasting confidence in problem-solving.
