About This Course

This course serves as a survey of the typical topics covered in an introductory high-school level chemistry class. A more detailed list of topics is provided below, but the topics closely resemble those found in AP Chemistry. They are taught at the late middle school or early high school level; no prior knowledge is explicitly assumed, and a review of all of the necessary mathematics will be provided, but familiarity with the basic techniques of algebra, at the very least, is strongly recommended. The instructors of this course will be Derrick Liu and Vivian Long. Derrick Liu graduated from BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and is a rising Senior at Johns Hopkins University, studying chemical engineering. He has taken Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and college-level introductory and inorganic chemistry and excelled in all courses. Derrick also has extensive tutoring experience, having been a teaching assistant for introductory chemistry at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and a mathematics tutor at AlphaStar academy. Vivian Long graduated from BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and is a rising Senior studying Chemistry and Mathematics at Wellesley College. She has taken AP Chemistry as well as college-level chemistry courses. She has experience as a chemistry peer tutor, a teaching assistant, and a research assistant.
